The Muckno Mania 2011 Sprint Triathlon was held on Saturday 16th July and proved to be a huge success. The Muckno Mania Sprint Triathlon which recorded 237 people entering the lake to swim 750meters. These combining with relay teams left a total of 269 competitors from all over Ireland involved in the event. This colourful and sportive spectacle took place primarily on the grounds and surrounds of Lough Muckno. Lough Muckno often described as the “Killarney of the North” which provides a magnificent setting for the event and I have no doubt that those who took part in the 2011's event would concur with this description. We look forward to seeing you all in 2012's event.
The course was the same as last years and included a 750m swim on Lough Muckno, a 18km cycle taking a Dundalk Road route and back home by Church Hill and finally a 5km run around the Black Island. All of which where lined with large crowds of spectators along the routes cheering the Triathletes along the way.
Well Done to our 2011 overall winner Karl Kildea from (Tydavnet, Monaghan) and indeed to all the participants who took part in this event making it a huge success.
A special thanks to Monaghan County Council and Coillte for their support the use of there grounds.
